Saints baseball sweeps Ga. Southwestern; Lady Saints struggle

POSTED: March 13, 2011 10:28 p.m.

The 10th-ranked North Georgia College & State University baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Georgia Southwestern with a 4-2 win on Sunday in Americus.

Kenny Bellavance had a pair of RBI singles, while Troy Snitker had an RBI single and drove in the Saints' final run with a groundout in the seventh inning.

That was all the offense the Saints (15-6, 4-5 Peach Belt Conference) needed.

Andrew Wallace (2-0) earned the win, scattering seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. Jacob Rickett picked up the save, his sixth, with a perfect ninth inning.

North Georgia returns to action Tuesday to open a two-game series at Carson-Newman. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

LADY SAINTS STRUGGLE THROUGH WEEKEND: No. 2 North Georgia finished a rough weekend Sunday in Dahlonega, dropping its second and third consecutive games to finish the Captain D's Classic with a 1-3 record.

In Sunday's first game, No. 3 Valdosta knocked off the Lady Saints, 5-4, with a walk-off, bases-loaded single in the seventh inning. In the finale, No. 4 Alabama-Huntsville notched a 9-1 win.

North Georgia (22-6) will travel to West Georgia for a Tuesday doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
