Prep football: North Hall retains No. 5 spot in poll

POSTED: October 20, 2007 5:05 a.m.

Class AAA mostly went unchanged in the Associated Press high school football poll, except for Monroe and Shaw forming a tie at No. 9. With both teams coming in even, undefeated Chamblee took over the 10th spot. North Hall, after another big win Friday night, holds steady at No. 5.

Stephenson’s loss last weekend caused a shakeup atop Class AAAAA, placing a new No. 1 in the state’s largest classification.

The once top-ranked Jaguars took a major dip down to No. 7 after their 14-6 loss to M.L. King, which now ranks No. 3, moving up two spots from last week’s rankings. North Gwinnett is the new No. 1, and North Cobb moved up to No. 2.

Peachtree Ridge moved down five spots after losing to North Gwinnett, and Camden County re-entered the poll for the first time since Week 4. After an off week, Norcross and Lowndes moved into the fourth and fifth spots.

In Class AAAA, Statesboro dropped four spots to the No. 8 after being defeated by Evans, which entered the poll for the first time this season. Top-ranked Northside-Warner Robins, No. 2 Tucker and No. 3 Thomas County Central held on to each of its spots.

A loss to Turner County pushed Wilcox County, which was once ranked second in Class A, down to the seventh spot. Wilcox County’s loss helped Emanuel County Institute move up to No. 2 in the rankings.

Class AA almost mirrored Class AAA with barely any changes, as the top five teams kept their positions. But Laney, which lost to Screven County 21-6, exited the poll as Thomasville made its way into the top ranks at No. 9.
