POSTED: March 7, 2011 5:51 p.m.

Truett-McConnell College baseball coach Jim Waits earned his 400th career victory Friday as the Bears defeated William Carey University in Cleveland.

The win came in Game 1 of a doubleheader that the Bears won 6-3. Leading the way was senior right fielder Brian York, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Sophomore Matt Hill earned the win on the mound, while North Hall graduate Jacob Brewster earned his fourth save of the season. With the win the Bears improved to 14-6 on the season and visit No. 8 Belhaven University on Friday and Saturday.

Waits helped oversee the transition of Truett-McConnell from a junior college to a four-year school in 2009. In their final year as a junior college, Waits' led the Bears to the semifinals and followed that with a winning season during the first year of competition as a four-year school in 2010.

"Four hundred wins is quite an accomplishment and is a testament to the hard work and dedication that (Waits) has for this program," assistant coach Trey Fowler said. "I've been under his guidance for seven years. In that time I have learned a lot and watched him have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of a lot of people inside and outside of our program."
