Crooning love’s tunes

Russo and Noe will serenade valentines with Rat Pack-style favorites

POSTED: February 10, 2011 12:30 a.m.

This Valentine's Day, let the music of Russo and Noe make you aces with the one you love.

With a sophisticated vocal style that is reminiscent of Sinatra and Martin, the duo will take you back in time to the heady days of Las Vegas and the Sands Hotel.

"(We sing) all the big band, Rat Pack songs. And, we try to make it fun," said Gabe Russo, who is also the production manager at the Holly Theater.

He and Jim Noe of Dahlonega have been singing together since 2000.

Russo, who began singing at the age of 8, has numerous stage performance credits under his belt. Noe has been performing and directing plays in the Atlanta area for more than 20 years.

Noe also founded, along with pianist Chris Wolski, the group The Swing Daddies, who have performed at the Blue Sky concerts in downtown Gainesville.

In 2006, Russo and Noe put on their tuxedoes, grabbed a martini glass and formed their own Pack.

Their show features music written by Cole Porter, Sammy Cahn and Johnny Mercer.

"This was the day of the brilliant song writer that got well paid and was just as revered as the interpreter of the song," Russo said. "You had these beautiful voices married to a really beautiful song."

Their extensive song list includes "Mack the Knife," "Luck be a Lady" and "Kick in the Head."

During Monday night's concert, Russo said he wouldn't mind sharing the stage with couples who want to shake their tail feathers.

"We always enjoy people getting up and dancing if they want to, so they could certainly come up on the stage and dance. We dig that."

The Holly Theater offers a beer and wine bar. Russo said there will be light snacks provided such as cookies and popcorn.

"Cookies are nice, they smell good, it's romantic," Russo quipped.

Put your Valentine's Day plans in the hands of Russo and Noe, who will do the crooning that'll keep a heart swooning.
