Sardis Elementary could seek charter status

POSTED: April 9, 2008 5:01 a.m.

Sardis Elementary School is looking at possibly pursuing charter status as an "enrichment model" school, said Hall County schools Superintendent Will Schofield.

He didn’t have further details Friday on the plan, deferring to Sardis principal Jan Hughes, who couldn’t be reached for comment.

The topic is set to come up at the Hall County Board of Education’s work session, set to start at 5 p.m. Monday at the district’s central office at 711 Green St.

Sardis is at 2805 Sardis Road in northwest Hall.

Charter schools typically involve more parent participation but also more accountability.

Also on the school board’s agenda is a proposal from the North Hall Touchdown Club to place artificial turf on North Hall High’s football field, elementary summer school, science textbook adoption and guidelines for ninth-graders transferring to Johnson High School and eventually into that school’s International Baccalaureate program.
