Award-winning floutist presents recital

The University of Georgia Performing Arts Center will bring an award-winning flutist to the stage on Tuesday.

Aleksandr Haskin, who is from Minsk, Belarus, will perform at 8 p.m. in the Ramsey Concert Hall.

He also is planning an educational residency in conjunction with the recital, offering arts and education programs for elementary and high school students in Oconee and Barrow counties.

The recital also will be recorded for national radio broadcast.

The 26-year-old musician won first prize in the 2009 Young Concert Artists International Auditions as well as the top prize at the Leonardo DeLorenzo Flute Competition in Viggiano, Italy.

Haskin has performed with the Yale Philharmonic at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Boston’s Symphony Hall, with the Qatar Philharmonic at the Kennedy Center, Teatro alla Scala in Milan and Teatro Massimo in Palermo.

He appeared in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory with the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, the Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra and the Moscow Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, and he has participated in prestigious music festivals in the United States, England, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Iran, Russia and Belarus.

Haskin graduated with a doctorate from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He received career grants from the Guzik Foundation in Moscow and a scholarship to the Yale University School of Music.
