Prep scoreboard: White County's Rutkiewicz hits for the cycle

CLEVELAND — Travis Rutkiewicz led the White County High baseball team with a 4-for-4 night at the plate and seven RBIs in an 11-5 win against previously unbeaten Flowery Branch on Thursday night in Cleveland.

Rutkiewicz hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple and a home run as the Warriors (5-3, 3-1 Region 7-AAA) moved into a four-way tie for second place in Region 7-AAA.

Casey Jones and Brantley Gee each had two hits for White County.

Patrick Henry led the Falcons (7-1, 3-1 Region 7-AAA) at the plate with three hits. Cody Ackerman went 2-for-2 for Flowery Branch and Greg Palmer hit a solo home run.

White County visits North Hall at 5:30 p.m. today. Flowery Branch plays host to West Hall at 5:30 p.m. today.

Gainesville 11, Lumpkin County 2

Zach Bennett had two home runs and six RBIs for the Red Elephants on Thursday night at Ivey-Watson Field in Gainesville.

Adam Parker and Sloan Strickland each finished 3-for-3 at the plate for Gainesville (4-4, 3-1 Region 7-AAA).

Max Joseph earned the win for the Red Elephants with five strikeouts and only allowed one earned run.

Gainesville visits Chestatee at 5:30 p.m today. The Indians (3-4, 1-3 Region 7-AAA) play host to East Hall at 5:30 p.m. today in Dahlonega.

West Hall 6, Johnson 3

Matt Boone picked up the win for the Spartans (3-5, 2-2 Region 7-AAA) by pitching five innings and allowing only one earned run on Thursday night in Oakwood.

Brian Ernst pitched two innings in relief for West Hall and struck out four Knights hitters to preserve the win. He finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI to lead the Spartans offensively.

West Hall visits Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex in South Hall.

Jefferson 3, Athens Christian 1

Tyler Hill, a senior, hit a two run home run for the Dragons (4-3, 3-0 Region 8-A) in the bottom of the sixth inning on Thursday night in Jefferson.

Chris Beck earned the win for the Dragons.

Jefferson travels to Hebron Christian at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Banks County 13, East Jackson 2

Justin Gibbs, Zack Bell and Tyler Hulsey each finished 2-for-4 with a home run for the Leopards (5-4, 2-2 Region 8-AA) on Thursday night in Commerce. Bill Redmon had two hits and scored two runs for Banks County.

Jeff Smith earned the win for the Leopards allowing only four hits over six innings.

Banks County plays host to Lakeview Academy at 5:30 p.m. tonight.

SOCCER

West Hall boys 2, Johnson 1

Juan Arbalaez and Rudy Vasquez each scored for the Spartans in their win over Johnson on Thursday night in Oakwood.

Jamie King had seven saves in goal for West Hall (5-3-2, 3-2 Region 7-AAA).

The Spartans travel to North Hall at 7:30 p.m. The Knights (5-6, 4-3 Region 7-AAA) travel to Flowery Branch at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Flowery Branch girls 2, West Forsyth 0

Kait Erhard scored for the Lady Falcons (8-4, 5-1 Region 7-AAA) on a corner kick from Lindsay Porter with 34:15 left to play in the second half on Thursday night in Cumming. Cheryl Sloggy also scored for Flowery Branch on another assist from Porter with 19 minutes remaining.

Flowery Branch goalie Torey McDowell had six saves.

Flowery Branch plays host to Johnson at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Gainesville boys 4, Chestatee 1

Jorge Rocha had two goals for the Red Elephants (3-3, 6-1 Region 7-AAA) on Thursday night at City Park. Russ Puckett and Caleb Turner each added a goal for Gainesville.

Gainesville goalie Phillip Gaines had five saves.

Evan Lawalin scored Chestatee’s only goal.

Gainesville visits East Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Lakeview Academy girls 3, Rabun County 0

Chelsea Waddell scored two goals and Jillie Pascual added another goal to lead the Lady Lions (3-5) to victory on Thursday night in Gainesville. Mary London Carswell and Anna Marchment each had assists for Lakeview Academy.

Ivy Godfrey had five saves for Lakeview at goalie.

Rabun County boys 4, Lakeview Academy 2

Nicolai Lunde led the Lions (0-8) with a goal and an assist on Thursday night in Gainesville. Yannick Hulsdonk scored Lakeview Academy’s other goal.

Lakeview Academy visits East Jackson at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Commerce.

TENNIS

North Hall girls 5, White County 0

Class AAA’s No. 5 ranked Lady Trojans increased their unbeaten streak to 12 games this season, defeating White County on Thursday night in Cleveland.

With the win, North Hall (12-0, 8-0 Region 7-AAA) has now won 32 straight region 7-AAA games over a two-year span.

Cara Reece, Hayley Crowder and Mary Beth Brown each won singles matches in straight sets for the Lady Trojans.

In doubles, the teams of Lauren Bolton/Courtney Wiley and Rachael Langman/Jessica Butts each won to complete the sweep for North Hall.

The Lady Trojans play host to Class AAA’s No. 9 ranked Gilmer at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

North Hall boys 3, White County 2

The Trojans’ doubles team of Scott Swanson and Joe Nedza defeated Logan Schaffer and Steen Houghton to break a 2-2 tie and defeat East Hall on Thursday in Gainesville.

Eli LoCicero and Clayton Nedza each won singles matches North Hall (7-4, 7-1 Region 7-AAA).

Thomas Flowers was the lone singles winner for the Warriors while Jeff Fitzpatrick and Nick Mader won in doubles for White County.

Chestatee boys 4, East Hall 1

Brandon Camp and Read Langhenry each won singles matches for the War Eagles in their win against East Hall on Thursday in Gainesville.

In doubles, the teams of Max Gingles/Magnum Brock and Adam Yates/Abraham Montoya each won to compete the team for Chestatee.

The War Eagles travel to White County at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Gainesville girls 3, Johnson 2

Stephanie Olson and Alee Boychuk each won singles matches for the Lady Red Elephants in their win over Johnson on Thursday at Longwood Park in Gainesville.

Gainesville (1-9) completed their first win of the season with a doubles win from Darby Jackson/Elizabeth Hood.

Cady Nix was the lone the singles winner for the Knights while the team of Katie Clark and Laura Gazaway won in doubles.

The Lady Red Elephants travel to West Forsyth at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Johnson travels to Flowery Branch a 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Dominion Christian 4, Riverside Military 1

Michael Besch and Austin Geutry each won singles matches for Dominion Christian in their win against Riverside Military on Thursday in Marietta.

The Knights also won both matches in doubles with the teams of Matthew Jackson/Matthew Keyt and Stephen Gorp/Zack Taylor each winning.

Zubin Irani was the lone winner for the Eagles in singles.

Riverside plays host to George Walton at 4 p.m. Thursday.

GOLF

Johnson boys 167, Lumpkin County 170

Grant Cagle led the Hall County champion Knights with a 38 in their win against Lumpkin County on Thursday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Ben Brisbois, Josh Foster and Michael Dunham each carded a 43 for Johnson (9-1).

Everett Huntsinger led the Indians with a 41 while Aaron George shot a 42, Adam Despres shot a 43 and Cody Fleming followed with a 44.

The Knights will participate in the Big Red Shootout at 2 p.m. Monday at Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville.

Gainesville girls 97, West Hall 114, North Hall 116

Camryn Cole shot a 44 and Ashley Kitchel shot a 53 for the Lady Red Elephants in their win over West Hall and North Hall on Thursday night at Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville.

Morgan Carr led the Lady Trojans with a 53. Tiffany Black led the Spartans with a 55.

West Hall plays Habersham Central at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Apple Mountain Golf Course in Clarkesville.

Dawson County girls 93, Pickens 111

Tigers senior Casey Holbrook carded a 40 and Charley Whitmire finished with a 53 on Thursday night at Gold Creek Golf Course on Dawson County.

Dawson County plays Forsyth Central at Gold Creek at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Dawson County boys 163, Pickens 191, East Jackson 253

Dawson County’s Tyler Goodwin shot a career-low 36 on nine holes on Thursday at Gold Creek in Dawsonville. Justin Denard and Nick Fitts each carded a 42 and Matt Christopher had a 43 as part of a team best score this season.

Dawson County plays host to Forsyth Central and Rabun County at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Gold Creek in Dawsonville.
