The Town & Gown Players are taking a strange journey with the second Main Stage show of the season: "The Rocky Horror Show," the science fiction stage musical that gave birth to the cult classic midnight movie.

Richard O'Brien's show is a sexy rock 'n' roll musical send-up of classic sci-fi horror, filled with outrageous characters and campy songs.

Expect an evening of sweet transvestites, "The Time Warp" and audience participation that made the film such an enduring phenomenon.

Janet (Ashley Laramore) is a wholesome all-American girl who just got engaged to her boyfriend Brad (Adam Shirley).

On their way to break the happy news, Janet and Brad find themselves stranded in the clutches of the deviant mad doctor Frank N. Furter (Nathan Altman) and his madcap motley crew of servants, sycophants and creatures of the night.

With Brad and Janet's arrival, a strange series of inhibition-shattering events unfolds that threatens to tear the couple apart and ultimately leave Janet helpless to resist Frank's latest lustful creation: Rocky Horror!

"The Rocky Horror Show" will be performed at the Athens Community Theatre, home of the Town & Gown Players, 115 Grady Ave. off Prince Avenue less than a mile from downtown.

The Town & Gown Players, now in their 57th year, is Georgia's oldest active all-volunteer community theater. Students, teachers, townies and people from all walks of life participate onstage and off in up to 10 productions each year.
