The United Daughters of the Confederacy recently held their 115th Annual Georgia Convention in Augusta.

Kimberly Wright, of the local General James Longstreet Chapter, was elected as the Georgia Division Recorder of Military Service Awards.

In her new role Wright will help facilitate the awarding of Military Service Awards to veterans who have served or are serving in defense of our country.

Wright has served at the national level as corresponding secretary; at the state level as Records of Gravesites of Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Chairman and at the chapter level as President and current Treasurer.

Barrow-Jackson U.S. Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol Squadron No. 156 would like to invite all area veterans to join them at noon Dec. 6 at the Twin Towers Veterans Memorial Park at the state Capitol in Atlanta for the "Wreath's Across America" memorial at the statehouse ceremony.

This ceremony will be held in conjunction with similar ceremonies across the nation, each to begin with the wreath laying at noon.

Barrow-Jackson is honored to once again provide the Georgia State House Wreath laying.

Contact Capt. MJ Bridges for more information at 770-324-0941 or 706-247-3973 or e-mail a1paparazi@aol.com.

The squadron would like to recognize individuals or members of a group who plan to attend.

Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization, was formed as an extension of the Arlington Wreath Project.

The wreath laying is now held annually on the second Saturday of December. Dec. 13, 2008, was unanimously voted by the U.S. Congress as Wreaths Across America Day.

Wreaths Across America relies on the help of the volunteers, many active organizations and the generosity of the trucking industry.
