He may not have a recording contract — yet  — but singer JJ Evans has found other ways to share his music with the world.

The 25-year-old Gainesville native is gearing up for his third concert, "Back 2 the Basics."

Usually, the concerts coincide with the debut of his independently released CD. But this year, he's doing things a little differently.

"I didn't have a new CD out this year, but people kept asking me when I was having another concert, so I decided to go and perform," Evans said.

"The concert will be a mixture of my old songs and a few songs from my first two CDs."

Although he says his target audience is teens and young adults, the singer says his show is family-friendly.

"I primarily write and sing Christian music, but it is more contemporary Christian music," Evans said.

"I like to think outside the box. The message is still there, but I try to be creative with it. I love all kinds of music, so you'll be able to hear those influences as well."

Evans, who comes from a musically inclined family, has been singing since he was 2 years old, and has been recording professionally for the last three years.

"I knew I wanted to do this full-time, on a professional level, but I wasn't signed," Evans said.

"Thankfully, I had the resources and family support to (launch my career independently). I have been so blessed to be able to do what I do."

While the concert will be feature Evans, it will also include a few surprises, including performances from a violinist and a ballerina.

"It's going to be a great, laid-back event," Evans said.
