Prep scoreboard: Banks County's bats explode against Commerce

The Leopards needed only five innings to defeat Commerce 20-3 on Thursday night in Commerce.

After a scorless first inning, Banks County (3-1) scored four runs and Commerce scored two in the second.

The Leopards continued to connect for the next three innings, scoring 16 more runs.

Tyler Hulsey hit two home runs and had four RBIs with three runs for Banks County. Justin Gibbs went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs.

The Leopards Jeff Smith went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs and Bill Redmon went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and one RBI.

Kasey Hudgins was the winning pitcher for Banks County with Smith coming in for relief in the fourth inning.

Banks County travels to Franklin County at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Franklin County 3, Johnson 2

A late comeback wasn’t enough for the the Knights to defeat Franklin County on Thursday night in Carnesville.

Johnson scored in the top of the seventh to move within one run of the Lions, but were unable to finish the rally with two runners in scoring position.

Will Rowlett led the Knights at the plate with two hits and one RBI. David Jones, Bradley Stevenson and Nick Denard also had hits for Johnson.

Cody Reel earned the win for Franklin County, pitching a complete game. Bobby Wirsing was the losing pitcher in a relief appearance for the Knights.

Johnson plays host to Gainesville at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

GOLF

Johnson boys 160, Flowery Branch 167

Grant Cagle was the low medalist of the match, shooting a 34 for the Knights in their win against Flowery Branch on Thursday at Royal Lakes Golf Course in Flowery Branch.

Johnson (4-1) also had scores from Michael Dunham (41), Clint Reeves (42) and Ben Brisbos (43).

The Knights and The Falcons will both be competing in the Hall County Championships which begin at 3:45 Monday at Royal Lakes Golf Course.

Johnson girls 104, Flowery Branch 123

Candace Parson carded at 48 for the Knights in their win against Flowery Branch on Thursday at Royal Lakes Golf Course in Flowery Branch.

Carly Robertson also contributed for Johnson with a 56.

Both teams will be particiapting in the Hall County Championships beginning at 3 p.m. Monday at Royal Lakes Golf Course.

Lumpkin County 159, Pickens 237

Everett Huntsinger carded the lowest score of the match with a 38 for the Indians (4-2) in their win against Pickens on Wednesday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Lumpkin County also had scores from Adam DesPres (39), Aaron George (40) and Cody Fleming (42).

The Indians return to Achasta Golf Course at 3:45 p.m. Thursday for a match against Gainesville.

Loganville Christian 190, Westminster Christian 233

Eli Crumley shot a 45 for the Wildcats in their season-opening loss to Loganville Christian on Thursday.

TENNIS

Riverside Military 4, Weber 1

Andre Zimmerman and Zubin Irani each won singles matches for the Eagles in their season opener against the Weber School on Thursday in Gainesville.

In doubles matches, the teams of Anton Kletsko/Andrew Miller and Andrew Rizk/Soung Woohan each won for Riverside.

The Eagles travel to the Dunwoody Country Club at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to face Mount Vernon Presbyterian.

Johnson girls 3, Flowery Branch 2

Despite losing two singles matches, the Lady Knights swept the doubles matches en route to a win against Flowery Branch on Thursday in Oakwood.

The Lady Falcons controlled early, with Jennica Ramey and Megan Grewett winning singles matches. Cady Nix was the lone singles winner for Johnson

The Lady Knights rebounded from the lone singles loss in doubles matches, with the teams of Laura Gazaway/Claire Cain and Stephanie Hulsey/Kamy Fields each earning wins to lock up a team win.

Johnson travels to Gainesville at 4 p.m. Monday. Flowery Branch travels to Gainesville at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Seth Hester, Brandon Sloan and Stephen Hester each won singles matches for the Knights in their win against Flowery Branch on Wednesday in Flowery Branch.

In doubles matches, the teams of Billy Hulsey/T.J. Williams and William Anthony/Scott Allan each won to complete the sweep for Johnson (5-1, 3-1 7B-AAA).

The Knights travel to West Hall at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Falcons travel to Gainesville at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

West Hall boys 5, Pickens 0

Luis Flores, Chris Evans and Alan Clark each earned singles wins for the Spartans in their win against Pickens on Wednesday.

The teams of Derek Weatherly/Ricky Vital and Kyle Weatherly/Jimmy Kincaid each earned doubles wins in straight sets to complete the shutout for West Hall.

Gainesville boys 4, West Forsyth 1

The Red Elephants (6-0) remained undefeated with a win against West Forsyth on Wednesday in Gainesville.

Ryan Joiner and Andreo Belch each won singles matches in straight sets for Gainesville.

In doubles matches, the teams of Louis Hokayem/Graham Williams and Robbie Bilbrough/Drew Denning each won for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville plays host to Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Johnson girls 3, East Hall 2 (Wednesday)

Katie Clark and Kady Nix each won singles matches in straight sets for the Lady Knights in their win against East Hall on Wednesday.

Laura Gazaway and Claire Cain won for the Knights in doubles matches.

Kelsey Allen was the Lady Vikings’ lone singles match winner. The team of Christina Deras and Taylor Hunt won a doubles match for East Hall.

Soccer

White County girls 3, East Hall 2

Caitlyn Hooper scored two goals for the Lady Warriors in their win against East Hall on Thursday night in Cleveland.

Brie Ballinger also scored for White County (2-4).

The Lady Warriors play host to Lakeview tonight at 7 p.m. The Lady Vikings play host to West Forsyth at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Johnson girls 4, Lumpkin County 2

Ana Contreras scored two goals for the Lady Knights in their win against Lumpkin County on Thursday night in Dahlonega.

Moriah Mills and Joana Madrigal also scored for Johnson (5-2, 3-1 Region 7B-AAA). Jasmine Covarrubias had seven saves in goal for the Lady Knights.

The Knights travel to Gilmer at 5 p.m. Monday.
