Thomas Bradley Bernard recently graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Bernard is attending the Pilot Training Program at Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, Miss.

Bernard graduated from North Hall High School in 2005 and is the son of Kevin Bernard of Gainesville and Diana Bernard of Bells, Tenn.

Air National Guard Airman Joshua G. Taylor graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Taylor completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Mark and Debbie Taylor of Riverside Drive, Gainesville.

Taylor is a 2009 graduate of Gainesville High School.

Joshua P. Holland of Cumming has completed Basic Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., and Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, N.C., and reported to his permanent duty station in July. Pfc. Holland is serving as a member of "The Commandant's Own," The United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, based at Marine Barracks Washington, Washington, D.C.

"The Commandant's Own" is the only Drum & Bugle Corps in the active-duty U.S. Armed Forces.

In order to serve in this elite ensemble, candidates must first prove themselves both as musicians and as Marines, then maintain the highest levels of music proficiency and basic military skills and marksmanship that make them always combat-ready.

Pfc. Holland is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy J. Holland of Cumming, and grandson of Mr. E.J. Holland of Buford and Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Corn of Cumming. He is a graduate of North Forsyth High School and North Georgia College & State University.

Seaman William Ryan Deaton, a 2005 Gainesville High School graduate who joined the Navy in 2009, is currently deployed on the U.S.S. Peleliu, giving relief aid to Pakistan. Deaton's parents are Randy and Julie Deaton; his grandparents are Royce and Ann Deaton.
