Newtown Club holds open house

From staff reports

POSTED: March 1, 2008 5:00 a.m.

The Newtown Florist Club Neighborhood Association will be holding an open house all weekend at its newly refurbished offices at 1064 Desota St.

The open house, which began Friday, continues from 1-3 p.m. today and Sunday.

The offices on Desota Street recently were renovated by students from Gainesville High School.

The Newtown Florist Club, established in 1950, promotes youth development and organizes for social, economic, and environmental justice in Gainesville and Hall County.

The club sponsors several programs, including the annual Girls Teen Leadership program, which teaches social justice action and advocacy for service learning and peacemaking, and earns social studies credit in school curriculum. The group also sponsors Martin Luther King Jr. Day events, including a march.

The club also welcomes donations to Newtown Florist Club, C/O Faye Bush, P.O. Box 90403, Gainesville, GA.
