Canizares powers G-Braves past Norfolk

Barbaro Canizares went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the Gwinnett Braves to an 8-4 win over the Norfolk Tides on Sunday at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.

Matt Young went 2-for-5 with an RBI and center fielder Nate McLouth was 1-for-5 with an RBI for Gwinnett. Brandon Beachy went six innings and allowed just one earned run on six hits while striking out five batters. Michael Broadway (3-0) pitched two innings of scoreless ball to earn the victory.

Gwinnett, which scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh, is now six games back of wild card leaders Columbus.

Gwinnett wraps up its final homestand of the season, taking on the Norfolk Tides in the final home game of the season at 7:05 p.m. Monday.
