Little change for local teams in football top 10

POSTED: August 24, 2010 2:54 p.m.

After a few teams around the state opened their seasons on Friday, their was little change in the Associated Press Georgia High School football polls.

Gainesville and North Hall held onto their spots at No. 7 and 10 in Class AAA, respectively; Buford remained No. 1 in Class AA; Flowery Branch (Class AAAA), White County (Class AAA) and Jefferson (Class AA) each received votes but did not crack the top 10.

The biggest shift came in Class AAAAA, where last week's No. 4, Colquitt County slid to No. 10 after losing to Class AA Cook. As a result of the win, Cook made its first appearance in the poll, coming in at No. 7.

The vast majority of high school teams in Georgia open their seasons Friday night.

Buford and Gainesville will meet at City Park in one of the area's marquee matchups, while Flowery Branch opens its season at Madison County, and White County travels to East Jackson. North Hall is opens its season Sept. 3 against Jefferson.
