Flowery Branch City Council changes meeting dates

POSTED: July 19, 2010 12:14 a.m.

The Flowery Branch City Council's meeting dates for August and September have been changed.

To accommodate vacations, the council now is set to meet Aug. 12 and 26.

And to allow for a new council member to be sworn in, the council is scheduled to meet Sept. 23. In keeping with the two-week gap between meetings, the other meeting that month will take place Sept. 9.

Normally, the council meets the first and third Thursdays of each month.

All the meetings will take place at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 5517 Main St.

The city plans to hold an election Sept. 21 to fill a seat vacated by Craig Lutz, who is seeking the District 1 seat on the Hall County Board of Commissioners.
Also at the Sept. 23 meeting, the council will appoint a mayor pro tem, who could serve as interim mayor until the city's mayoral election on Nov. 2.

The current interim mayor, Mike Miller, has said he plans to resign Sept. 27 to run for mayor. Sept. 27 is the first day of qualifying for that office.
