POSTED: February 29, 2008 5:01 a.m.

A wreck on Ga. 53 near War Hill Park Road left one dead, six injured and all lanes of Ga. 53 eastbound closed Sunday.

As of 11 p.m. Sunday, Georgia State Patrol officials had not released the cause of the wreck or the names of those involved.

Patrol Operator King said the wreck involved two vehicles and left one person dead and six injured. Three of the six were younger than age 12. Two were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and one to North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell.

King did not know the extent of the injures, but said the children were not in critical condition.

The other three were transferred to Emory Johns Creek Hospital.

Ga. 53 was closed from about 4:30 p.m., when the call came in, to about 10:30 p.m., King said.

Ambulances from Dawson, Forsyth and Hall counties responded to the scene, as did the Dawson County Sheriff’s Department.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck and would not release names of those involved until relatives were notified.
