GAINESVILLE — Sally Meadors, principal of Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy, is retiring after this school year.

The Gainesville City Board of Education will consider her retirement during its monthly business meeting, set for Tuesday.

"I just decided it was time to have new leadership here at Enota," Meadors said Friday.

She helped develop Enota as one of the city system’s elementary programs of choice when she became principal six years ago.

Multiple Intelligences is based on a theory that, as Enota’s Web site says, "does not ask, ‘How smart are you?’ but rather ‘How are you smart?’"

Meadors has spent 29 years in Gainesville city schools, with 23 of those spent at Fair Street Elementary School.

She started as a fourth-grade teacher and later became an instructional coordinator and then assistant principal at Fair Street.

Meadors, 62, doesn’t plan to stray far from Gainesville in retirement.

"I have three grandchildren here at Enota and they will continue to be here next year," she said. "And I hope to continue to work in education for a few more years, probably part time."

She said she also plans to travel and spend more time with family.

Meadors’ retirement follows a recent announcement that Lisa Smith, principal of Gainesville Middle School’s Classical Studies Academy, is headed to Gilmer County schools in North Georgia as systemwide math specialist.

The board is set to vote Tuesday on her resignation, which is effective April 3.
