Prep roundup: Lady Vikings advance to tournament semifinals

East Hall girls 39, Flowery Branch 26
Led by senior Jessica Blackwell, who finished with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting including four 3-pointers, the Class AAA No. 10-ranked Lady Vikings not only secured a spot in the Class AAA state playoffs but also advanced to the Region 7-AAA tournament semifinals with their 39-26 win over Flowery Branch on Tuesday at West Forsyth.

With the game knotted at seven after one period, Blackwell single-handidly brought her team back to life and gave them a lead they would not relinquish hitting three straight 3-pointers carrying a second quarter-opening 11-0 run.

She also managed to give East Hall its first double-digit lead of the game with three minutes and 40 seconds to go in the third quarter on her fourth and final 3-pointer of the afternoon.

South Carolina signee Sada Wheeler added 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for East Hall.

The Lady Falcons were led by Kayla Smith with 11 points.

The Lady Vikings will face the winner of the North Hall-Pickens game at 4 p.m. Friday at Gainesville High while Flowery Branch’s season has concluded.
East Hall boys 76, Lumpkin County 40
Seniors Trevor Bishop and Dedric Ware led 15 Vikings in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively in East Hall rout of the Indians on Tuesday at West Forsyth High.

With the win, the Vikings secured a spot in the Class AAA state playoffs and move into the semifinal round of the Region 7-AAA tournament where they will face the winner of the Chestatee-West Hall game at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Gainesville High.

The outcome of the game was never in question as East Hall began the game on a 10-0 run and led by 18 six minutes into the first quarter.

Lumpkin County was led by Austin Tolbert who hit for 11 points.

With the loss, the Indians season concludes.

Flowery Branch boys 76, West Forsyth 49

Led by junior center Izaan Cross’ 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals, Flowery Branch solidified its spot in the Class AAA state playoffs and the semifinals of the region tournament with a rout of West Forsyth on Tuesday night in Cumming.

A.C. Bailey added 13 points for the Falcons (22-3) and Chris Lipscomb had nine points and nine rebounds.

Junior Michael Moch led West Forsyth (8-19) with 17 points, including five 3-pointers.

The Falcons advance to play the winner of tonight’s Gainesville-North Hall game while, with the loss, the Wolverines season is over.

Riverside 73, Weber 52
Riverside continued their path through the GISA 1AAA tournament Tuesday night, defeating Weber at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School in Sandy Springs.

Charlie Riley scored 19 points for the Eagles (11-10). Richard Tribble scored 15 points, and Joseph Lister added 11.

Gavi Abraham scored 18 points for Weber. Daniel Maloon added 16 points.

Riverside advances to the tournament semi-finals against Mount Vernon at Mount Vernon at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Dawson County girls 49, Rabun County girls 41
The Dawson County girls earned a win to stay alive in the Region 8-AA tournament, defeating Rabun county in a close contest in Commerce Tuesday Night. Katie Lebel scored 20 points and shot four three-pointers for the Tigers. Katelyn Westbrook also added 12 points.

Dawson County travels to North Oconee for the tournament quarterfinals against Greene County at 6 p.m. tonight.

Soccer
Buford girls 1, North Hall 1

The Buford and North Hall girls kicked their season off with a tie Tuesday night in Buford.

Natalya Jones scored the lone goal for the No. 4 ranked Wolves (1-0) in the second half. Haley Holderfield was credited with the assist.

The Trojans (0-1) tied the game with a goal from Ashley Lackey. Ali Wright assisted on the goal.

Buford plays host to No. 11 Aquinas at 6:30 p.m. Friday. North Hall travels to Forsyth Central at 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

East Hall boys 7, White County 2
Nikko Andrade led the way for East Hall on Tuesday night, scoring four goals and adding two assists in his debut against White County.

Christian Garcia, Cesar Espinoza, and Ozzy Salazar also contributed for the Vikings (1-0), each scoring one goal.

Jose Resendiz and Rudy Martinez added two assists. Ricardo Llamas stopped three shots and made one penalty kick save in goal.

East Hall travels to Buford at 7 p.m. Friday.
