Gram receives Benham Award
John A. Gram, a senior partner in the Gainesville law firm of Whelchel, Dunlap, Jarrard and Walker, has been awarded the Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service from the State Bar of Georgia and the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism.
Since 1998, the award has honored lawyers and judges in Georgia who have made significant contributions to their communities beyond their legal or official work.
Gram serves on the boards of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County, the Salvation Army and is vice president of the Good News Clinics.
For more than 20 years, he has served on the board of Challenged Child and Friends and served two terms as chairman of the Gainesville State College Foundation.
Gram is a past president of the Gainesville-Northeastern Bar Association.

Eddins named general manager of Adams Transfer
Glen Eddins has been named general manager of Adams Transfer & Storage Co.
He joined the firm in 2006 as operations manager.
“Glen has been an asset to our team, bringing valuable experience in the industry along with self-motivation qualities and the ability to inspire others to perform at their best,” said company vice president James J. “Jimmy” Adams.
With more than 18 years in the moving industry, Eddins, as general manager, will oversee the company’s financial objectives and annual business plan.
With offices in Gainesville and Atlanta, Adams Transfer & Storage Co. is a division of The Adams Companies and is an agent for Allied Van Lines, specializing in office and household moving services.

Palmer joins The Peoples Bank as branch manager
The Peoples Bank has announced the hiring of W.D. “Dey” Palmer IV as vice president and branch manager of the Braselton office. Debbie Teal, former manager of the Braselton office, is now the branch manager for the Auburn location.
Palmer has more than eight years’ banking experience in North Georgia. Prior to joining The Peoples Bank, he was branch manager of the North Hall Office and Thompson Bridge drive-through locations of Gainesville Bank & Trust. Palmer holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in management from Mercer University. He is scheduled to graduate from the Georgia Bankers Association-sponsored Georgia Banking School in Athens in May 2008.

Ledford, Segars, Strickland honored for years of service
Donald Ledford of Dahlonega, Roy Segars of Homer and J.W. Strickland of Gainesville were recently presented with watches and awards marking 20 years of service from LAD Truck Lines.
The company provides transportation services for Fieldale Farms of Baldwin and its Springer Mountain products. LAD Truck Lines is based in Watkinsville.

Childs named to Fauchard fellowship
Christopher Childs, a Gainesville dentist, has been inducted as a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Founded in 1936, the international dental honor organization was established to promote professionalism, integrity and ethics.
Fauchard, who was born in 1678 in France, is considered to be the father of modern dentistry. The academy has 7,700 members in 68 nations.
Childs was inducted at a Feb. 2 ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton at Reynolds Plantation.
    
BB&T promotes McGarvey
to assistant vice president
BB&T Insurance Services has promoted John McGarvey to assistant vice president. McGarvey, who joined the company in 2006, is a property and casualty agent in BB&T’s Huffines Russell Insurance department.
The Gainesville native earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration, banking and finance from the University of Mississippi. McGarvey specializes in the risk management needs of midsized to large contracting and manufacturing businesses throughout the Southeast.
