Prep roundup: Lady Spartans take a No. 3 seed

The West Hall girls secured the No. 3 seed from Region 7B-AAA with a 40-38 win against Johnson on Friday night in Oakwood.

The win for West Hall sets up a home game against Lumpkin County at 7 p.m. Monday during the first round of the Region 7-AAA tournament.

West Hall (12-11, 5-5 Region 7B-AAA) was led by Kim Smigelsky, who scored 16 points and Jayla Moon, who scored 12.

Jordan Gustavel led Johnson (4-18, 3-7) with 19 points.

The Lady Knights play White County at 4 p.m. Monday at West Hall during the first round of the Region 7-AAA tournament.

West Hall boys 72, Johnson 63
Ricky Vital scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead West Hall past Johnson on Friday night in Oakwood.

Terrell Penland and Derek Weatherly each scored 12 points for the Spartans (13-10, 6-4 Region 7B-AAA). Johnson (10-14, 4-6) was led by Devaris Finch, who scored 20 points.

The Knights, the No. 4 seed from Region 7B-AAA, will play Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. Monday at West Hall High during the first round of the region tournament.

West Hall, the No. 2 seed from Region 7B-AAA, will play the winner of the Pickens/Chestatee game at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at West Forsyth.

Gilmer girls 55, North Hall 45
Sarah Jones scored 20 points and Kylie Smith scored 10 to lead Gilmer past North Hall on Friday night.

North Hall (16-9, 6-4) was led by Letiecia Davenport’s 17 points and Elizabeth Williams, who scored 13.

The Lady Trojans will play host to West Forsyth at 7 p.m. Monday during the first round of the Region 7-AAA tournament.

Gilmer (20-5, 7-3) will play the winner of the game between Lumpkin County and West Hall at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the second round of the Region 7-AAA tournament at West Forsyth High.

North Hall boys 70, Gilmer 33
Four North Hall players scored in double figures and the Trojans easily defeated Gilmer on Friday night.

Josh Haymore led all scorers with 12 points for North Hall (16-7, 8-2 Region 7A-AAA).

North Hall will play the winner of the Gilmer/Gainesville game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday during the second round of the Region 7-AAA tournament at West Forsyth.

Flowery Branch boys 79, Pickens 58
Josh Barrett had a team-high 21 points as Flowery Branch defeated Pickens by 20 points on Friday night.

Brian Welchel and Ishmael Hollis each scored 10 points for the Falcons (21-3, 10-0 Region 7B-AAA).

Flowery Branch will play the winner of the White County/West Forsyth game at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday during the second round of the Region 7-AAA tournament at West Forsyth.

Jefferson girls 52, Prince Avenue 25
Kris Reynolds scored 12 points and Caroline Adams added 10 to lead the Lady Dragons to a 27-point victory against Prince Avenue Christian on Friday night in Bogart.

Jefferson boys 65, Prince Avenue 44
Three Dragons scored in double figures as Jefferson defeated Prince Avenue Christian on Friday night in Bogart.

Darious Minor led Jefferson (12-12, 6-2 in 8N-A) with 11 points, while Demetri Robinson and Ronnie Lewis each scored 10.

Jefferson will play host to Hebron Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. tonight and will open the Region 8-A tournament against Athens Christian at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prince Avenue Christian.

Riverside Military 52, Mt. Vernon 45
Led by Charlie Riley’s 17 points and Steven Frady’s 11, the Riverside Military War Eagles improved their overall record to 10-10 on Friday night in Gainesville.

The Eagles (10-10, 5-5 GISA Region 1-AAA) will have to wait until Sunday to find out what seed they will be in the region tournament that begins Monday.

Buford girls 70, Cross Keys 22
Jennifer Tucker scored a game-high 31 points to lead sixth-ranked Buford past Cross Keys on Friday night in Buford.

Tucker was the only member of the Lady Wolves (20-5, 12-4 Region 6S-AA) to score in double figures.

The win for Buford secures them the No. 3 seed in the upcoming region tournament. The Lady Wolves will play Creekview in the first round of the Region 6-AA tournament at 6 p.m. Monday.

Buford boys 88, Cross Keys 63
Led by freshman Zach Lynn’s 19 points, the Buford Wolves cruised past visiting Cross Keys on Friday night.

Jakar Bridges (16 points), Jeremie Moore (14), Twoey Hosch (13) and Jake McCroskey (10) also scored in double figures for the Wolves (8-16, 4-12 Region 8S-AA).

Lakeview girls 36, Commerce 26
Megan Rochester scored 14 points to lead Lakeview Academy past Commerce on Friday night in Commerce. Brittany Sewell led Commerce with 12 points.

With the win the Lady Lions (11-10, 10-3 Region 8N-A) have earned the No. 2 seed in Region 8-A.

Lakeview boys 73, Commerce 51
David Pruett scored a game-high 36 points leading Lakeview Academy past Commerce on Friday night in Commerce.

Tyler Ward added 15 points for the Lions (17-8, 8-0 Region 8N-A).

Commerce was led by Taylor Gurry, who scored 16 points.

Lakeview Academy will play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the second round of the Region 8-A tournament.

Dawson County boys 70, Banks County 52
Zach Cook scored a career-high 36 points to lead Dawson County past Banks County on Friday night. Lee Little scored 15 points on five 3-pointers for the Tigers (18-7, 8-2 Region 8N-AA). Banks County was led by Kevin Daniel’s 18 points.

Dawson County will play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday during the Region 8-AA tournament at Dawson County.

Heritage Academy 72, American Heritage 35
Andrew Porter scored 22 points and Mason Roszel added 16 in Heritage Academy’s win on Friday night in Canton.

Heritage Academy (12-9) will play Evangel in Birmingham, Ala. at 6 p.m. Friday.
