Prep roundup: Chestatee girls upset state-ranked Gilmer

The Chestatee girls shook things up in Region 7A-AAA Tuesday night, picking up an important subregion win, 55-38, over No. 8-ranked Gilmer.

The win ties the War Eagles (11-12, 6-3) with Gilmer (19-5, 6-3) and North Hall for second place in the subregion heading into the final night of the regular season.

Kasey Smith led the War Eagles with 16 points. Shelby Bright scored 12 points and Peyton Robertson added 11 points with seven rebounds.

Chestatee will play host to subregion-leading East Hall at 7 p.m. Friday.

Chestatee boys 88, Gilmer 58
An ankle injury to Chestatee’s leading scorer Parker Smith didn’t stop the War Eagles (19-5, 7-2 Region 7A-AAA) from earning a win against Gilmer on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Smith was injured in the first quarter and did not return. The injury is not considered serious, War Eagle coaches said after the game. Despite the injury, Smith still managed to score 15 points, and Branden Jovaag led Chestatee with 19 points. Michael Boisclair also contributed with 11 points.

Chestatee will wrap up their season at home against East Hall at 7 p.m. Friday.

East Hall girls 55, White County 30
Allowing just 13 points in the first half, the Lady Vikings earned a key subregion win Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Heading into the final night of the regular season, East Hall (17-5, 7-2 Region 7A-AAA) holds a one-game lead over Chestatee, Gilmer and North Hall in subregion 7A-AAA.

The Lady Vikings will travel to Chestatee at 7 p.m. Friday.

East Hall was led by their seniors. Sada Wheeler scored 13 points with 13 rebounds and six blocks. Tierra Benton contributed with 13 points, seven rebounds and seven blocks. Sonata Chester scored 12 points with 5 assists.

Lindsey Wiley led the Warriors (7-16, 2-7) with 14 points.

White County plays host to Lumpkin at 7 p.m. Friday.

East Hall boys 71, White County 60
Led by Ken Wise’s 40 points, the Vikings earned a subregion win Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Ken Wise also scored his 1,000th career point during the game and Kiante Young added eight points for the Vikings (18-5, 8-1 Region 7A-AAA).

Tyler Norman lead the Warriors (10-13, 3-6) with 23 points.

East Hall travels to Chestatee at 8:30 p.m. Friday. White County plays host to Lumpkin County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

West Hall girls 55, West Forsyth 37
The West Hall girls defeated West Forsyth Tuesday night, jumping out to a 14-point lead by halftime and maintaining it through the final two quarters.

Jayla Moon led the Lady Spartans (11-11, 4-5 Region 7B-AAA) with 16 points. Kim Smigelsky added 12 points and Tiffany Black also scored 11 points. West Hall will play host to Johnson at 7 p.m. Friday.

Jefferson girls 62, Tallulah Falls 26
The Jefferson girls picked up a road win Tuesday night at Tallulah Falls, pulling ahead in the first quarter and consistently leading throughout the game.

The Dragons (13-10, 5-3 Region 8N-A) were lead by Caroline Adams, who scored 15 points.

Jefferson will travel to Prince Avenue Christian at 6 p.m. Friday, then play a make-up game at home against Hebron Christian 6 p.m. Saturday.

Jefferson boys 68, Tallulah Falls 41
The Jefferson boys defeated Talullah Falls on Tuesday night, earning a subregion win. Chris Beck led the Dragons (11-12, 6-2 8N-A) with 13 points. Jamie Sexton also added 10 points.

Jefferson travels to Prince Avenue Christian at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Lakeview girls 52, Athens Christian 23
The Lakeview girls defeated Athens Christian Tuesday night, taking an early lead and overpowering their opponent through the entire game.

Janelle Francis led the Lions (10-10, 9-3 Region 8N-A) with 11 points. Louisa Jacobs and Maddie Haymore each added 10 points. Lakeview travels to Commerce at 7 p.m. Friday.

North Hall girls 67, Lumpkin County 51
The North Hall girls defeated Lumpkin County on Tuesday night, earning a big win in their subregion with the playoffs approaching.

Letiecia Davenport led the Trojans (16-9, 6-3 Region 7A-AAA) with 26 points. Elizabeth Williams scored 13 points along with 10 assists. Bradee Burrell contributed with 11 points.

The Indians (7-17, 0-9) were led by Ashley Brown, who scored 20 points. Lacey Wallingford added 10 points.

North Hall travels to Gilmer at 7 p.m. Friday for their final game of the regular season.

Lumpkin County will also wrap up its regular season Friday against White County at 7 p.m.

North Hall boys 53, Lumpkin County 46
The North Hall boys earned a key subregion win Tuesday night, defeating Lumpkin County in Dahlonega.

Ethan Satterfield led the Trojans (16-7, 7-2 Region 7A-AAA) with 16 points. Brannon Nix added 16 points and the Trojans converted 30 of 43 free throw attempts.

E.J. Young led the Indians with 16 points. Shawn Chapman contributed 14 points.

North Hall travels to Gilmer at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Wesleyan girls 64, Buford 52
The Buford girls fell to No. 1 Wesleyan by 11 points Tuesday night in Buford.

The Wolves (19-5, 11-4 Region 6A-AA) were led by Blanche Alverson, who scored 19 points.

Jocelyn Danley also contributed with 12 points.

Anne Marie Armstrong led the way for Wesleyan with 23 points.

Buford plays host to Cross Keys at 6 p.m. Friday.

Wesleyan boys 78, Buford boys 60
The Buford boys fell to Weslyan on Tuesday night despite a offensive surge in the final quarter.

Four Wesleyan players scored double-digit points, with Dylon McLaughlin leading them with 18.

Jakar Bridges led Buford (7-16, 0-9 Region 6A-AA) with 17 points.

The Wolves will play host to Cross Keys at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Johnson boys 77, Pickens 40
The Johnson boys defeated Pickens on Tuesday night in Oakwood.

The Knights (10-13, 4-5 Region 7B-AAA) were led by Devaris Finch, who scored 11 points.

Colby Horne and Branelon Sloan also contributed with 10 points. Overall, 13 different Johnson players scored.

Johnson travels to West Hall at 8 p.m. Friday.

Pickens girls 43, Johnson 41
The Johnson girls lost in a heartbreaker Tuesday night, giving up a last-second, game-winning shot to Pickens in Oakwood.

Haley Chapman led the Knights (4-15) with 20 points.

Johnson travels to West Hall at 7 p.m. Friday.

Dawson County boys 45, Rabun County 22
The Dawson County boys earned a win over Rabun County on Tuesday night in Dawsonville. Lee Little led the Tigers (17-7, 7-2 Region 8B-AA).

Dawson County travels to Banks County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Riverside boys 55, George Walton 42
The Eagles outscored George Walton Academy in every quarter on their way to a region win Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Joseph Lister led the Eagles (10-12, 4-5 GISA Region 1-AAA) with 18 points. Charlie Riley added 12 points.

Riverside plays host to Mt. Vernon at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
