Lady Jackets win another ACC game

ATLANTA - Chioma Nnamaka scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (17-4, 4-3 ACC) to a 77-59 win over Clemson (9-13, 2-5) Thursday night at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

The Yellow Jackets used a 28-5 run over the first 10 minutes and 29 seconds of the second half to turn an eight-point halftime lead into a rout.

Seniors Janie Mitchell and Nnamaka led the charge as Tech put the game away.

The Jackets led by as much as 29 points with 6:38 remaining before the coaches emptied the bench.

"What a great win for our kids," head coach MaChelle Joseph said. "It was great to get everyone some minutes. Janie (Mitchell) was very poised and Chioma (Nnamaka) was huge in the first half from beyond the three-point line. We now look forward to our match-up Sunday against a very talented Florida State team."

Tech forced 28 turnovers and finished with 16 steals on the evening.

Mitchell scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Jackets and Alex Montgomery added 17 points and a career-high five steals in the win.

The Tigers were led by Lele Hardy, who finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

Kirstyn Wright, a Stone Mountain, Ga. native, scored a career-high 16 points in a losing effort.

The Jackets held a 36-28 advantage going into the locker room after Nnamaka knocked down her fourth three-point field goal of the half with four seconds remaining.

Clemson was on an 8-0 run over the final three minutes until Nnamaka knocked down the three-pointer.
