J. Dan and Cynthia S. Syfan of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Mary Frances Syfan to Joshua Graham Nimocks, son of David R. III and Lynne C. Nimocks of Fayetteville, N.C.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Rachel G. Sims of Athens, the late David E. Sims Sr., and the late Dan G. and Frances J. Syfan.

She is a 2001 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2006 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor’s degree in speech communications. She received a master’s degree at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. She is employed as a speech-language pathologist with Pediatric Development Therapy in Fayetteville, N.C.

The groom-elect is the grandson of David R. Jr. and Elisabeth B. Nimocks, Thurston and Faye Callahan, all of Fayetteville, and the late Sara Jackson Callahan.

He is a 2001 graduate of Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville. He graduated in 2005 from Duke University in Durham, N.C., with a bachelor’s degree in English and physics. He is employed as a software engineer with Ensystex, Inc. in Fayetteville.

The couple plan to wed June 5, 2010, at the groom’s parents’ residence in Fayetteville.
