The Class of 2008 recruiting class isn’t even officially finalized yet, but the University of Georgia’s 2009 class is already taking shape. And for the third year in a row the Bulldogs will be taking a member of The Times Football All-County or All-Area team.

Chestatee’s Chase Vasser, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior linebacker, became Georgia’s third commitment for the class of 2009 on Monday.

Vasser joins former East Hall standout Walter Hill and Habersham Central wide receiver Tavarres King, 2007 Times Player of the Year, as area players who have committed to Georgia’s football program.

Hill is currently a redshirt freshman wide receiver for the Bulldogs.

Vasser, in his junior season for the War Eagles, had 138 tackles, 38 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks.

"I’m excited for the opportunity that Chase (Vasser) has," Chestatee coach Stan Luttrell said. "He would have had the opportunity to play elsewhere but he decided he wanted to be a Georgia Bulldog. Kids around here grow up dreaming of playing in Athens and I am glad that he has the opportunity to realize those dreams.

"We will work hard this year to develop Chase (Vasser) and build him so that he’s ready to play in the SEC (Southeastern Conference)."

Vasser, a Times Elite 11 and first-team All-County selection in 2007, helped lead the War Eagles to a 7-3 record last season.

Joining him in the 2009 class are Emanuel County Institute’s Washaun Ealey and teammate Dexter Moody. Ealey, a running back who amassed 58 touchdowns and 2,982 yards in his junior season, was named the Atlanta Journal-Constitution player of the year for the state in 2007.

Ealey’s 2,982 yards rushing is the third best for a season in Georgia high school history.

Signing day for the 2008 class is Feb. 6.
