North Hall climbs three spots

POSTED: October 13, 2007 5:05 a.m.

At the midway point in the regular season, only Class AAAAA experienced some changes near the top in the Associated Press high school football poll.

But in Class AAA, North Hall’s victory over previous No. 7 Flowery Branch enabled the Trojans to move up three places to No. 5. That helped Peach County jump two spots and take over the No. 7 slot, forcing Flowery Branch out. Cairo fell three places to No. 8 and Shaw enters at No. 10. The top four move on undefeated, with Carver-Columbus at No. 1.

No. 2 North Gwinnett and No. 3 North Cobb exchanged places in the Class AAAAA rankings as Stephenson held on at No. 1 for another week. No. 9 Lowndes moved up a notch while Tift County exits, making room for Harrison to enter the rankings tied with Walton at No. 9.

Class AA welcomes two new members as No. 8 Savannah Christian enters tied with Dublin and Callaway takes over at No. 10. Both slots became available after Greater Atlanta Christian and Cook lost and fell from the rankings. Laney jumped four positions to No. 6 as No. 7 Dodge County moved up one. The top five remain unchanged with Buford holding down No. 1.

No. 6 East Paulding and No. 7 Cherokee climbed a couple of notches while No. 8 Rome fell one and No. 9 Westside-Macon dropped three in Class AAAA. After two consecutive bye weeks St. Pius X exits the rankings and Mays replaces them at No. 10. The top five leaders continue with Northside-Warner Robins getting 15 of the 16 first place votes.

In Class A, No. 6 Clinch County and No. 8 Athens Academy traded places as did No. 9 Warren County and No. 10 Seminole County. Entering the poll at No. 7, Fellowship Christian takes over for Bremen as they fall out of the rankings. All undefeated, the top five leaders remain.
