The NASCAR Sprint Cup star won for the second straight year at Speedfest on Sunday, running away with the checkered flag in the CRA Super Late Model Division.
In other races, Greg Simpson won the Pro Late Model Division, while Brad Springer won the Open Wheel Modified race, which had been pushed from its originally scheduled spot on Saturday.
The cold, wet weather, which forced race officials to postpone all of Saturday’s events, made for a busy day at the track Sunday.
The gates opened at 8 a.m., practices started at 9:30, and the racing wasn’t done until after the sun had set.
Busch wasn’t alone in regard to repeat peformances, as Simpson, a Gainesville resident, also won last year at Speedfest in a Georgia Asphalt Series race.
This year, he bested second-place finisher Dwayne Buggay and Buford resident Shane Sawyer, who finished in third.
Simpson can also claim a win over Busch, who finished fifth in the second race of the day. Jeff Fultz took fourth place.
But Busch closed strong with Super Late Model win in the day’s third and final race. A second generation of NASCAR stars also had a solid showing, as Steven Wallace, son of Rusty Wallace, finished in second after starting on the pole. Bill Elliott’s 14-year-old son Chase finished in sixth place.
Fultz turned in his second good run of the day, taking third place in the CRA race, followed by Bubba Pollard in fourth and Drew Brannon in fifth.
In the Open Wheel Modified Feature, Springer was followed by Brian Nester and Billy Melvin, respectively.
