Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy fifth-graders London Harper and Brady Holcomb were chosen by their teachers to be honored by the Gainesville Optimist Club as Outstanding Students of the Year. The organization sponsors Youth Appreciation Week, and London and Brady were honored along with students from other schools by attending a dinner at the Gainesville Civic Center.

Matthew Jones of Buford and Michael Hanna of Gainesville recently graduated from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C. 

Knal Kern Lahiry, a 2009 graduate of Gainesville High School, recently received the $2,450 Mary Ellen Collier Scholarship from the Northeast Georgia Writers. He attends Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Local students John Di Leo of Cumming, Johnny McLean of Buford, Mary Bendin of Flowery Branch and Mclaren Cardwell of Hoschton recently participated in Georgia Southern University's Southern Scholars Showcase.

The invitation-only event requires students score a minimum of 1,300 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT with a high grade-point average in high school courses. During the showcase, students are given direct access to student organizations, academic and student service offerings, and also interview for a variety of Georgia Southern University academic scholarships. Georgia Southern University is located in Statesboro.

Corey Sullivan of Gainesville recently was named to the dean's list at Newberry College. Those named to the dean's list must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours and earn a GPA of 3.5.

Elizabeth Marie Patterson recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the granddaughter of Rhuel and Dorothy Ann Patterson and Harvey and Betty Rooks of Gainesville.
