Flowery Branch swears in mayor, new city council members

FLOWERY BRANCH - Flowery Branch Mayor Diane Hirling, re-elected to a second four-year term, was sworn in on Wednesday morning along with three new city council members.

The organizational meeting at Flowery Branch's city hall officially recognized the mayor, who was elected to her second term without opposition, along with new council members Mike Miller, Kris Yardley and Tara Richards.

Hirling gave a short speech following the swearing-in ceremony, saying she was able to restore stability to the city government in her first term and was looking forward to more progress with the city in her second term.

A brief meeting followed the ceremony, where the new set of city leaders moved to change the time and date of future city meetings. Meetings have been held at 9:30 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, but starting with the next meeting, they will take place at 6 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 21, when there will be a final reading and vote on the motion.
