Brenau hosts famed children’s author

Book author and storyteller Carmen Agra Deedy will be featured in a Saturday evening program at Brenau University.

Deedy was born in Havana, Cuba, and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1963, during the aftermath of the Cuban Revolution. A professional storyteller, she has performed at the Disney Institute, on Broadway at the New Victory Theater, the Folger Shakespeare Library, the National Book Festival, the Kennedy Center and many other storytelling festivals nationwide.

Deedy is a regular contributor to National Public Radio’s "Weekend All Things Considered" and "Latino USA." She is the author of "Martina the Beautiful Cockroach," "The Yellow Star: The Legend of King Christian X of Denmark," "TreeMan," "The Library Dragon" and "Agatha’s Feather Bed."

The event is presented by the Georgia Center for the Book, the Hall County Library System, Brenau University and the Georgia Humanities Council, and will be held at 7 p.m. at the Hosch Theatre, John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts at Brenau University.
