Mr. and Mrs. Michael Durham Moss of Lookout Mountain announce the engagement of their daughter Miss Sara Saxon Moss to John Marshall Melvin Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John Marshall Melvin Sr. of Gainesville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Preston Moss and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Howard Carnes.

She is a 1991 graduate of the Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga., Tenn. She graduated in 1995 from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., with a bachelor's degree in international studies. She is employed as a vice president in economic development with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta.

The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Marshall Melvin and the late Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Clyde Greer. He is a 1991 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 1995 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He is a site acquisition specialist with Marshgrass Consulting Inc. in Atlanta.

The couple plan to wed Dec. 19, 2009, in Lookout Mountain.
