Gala benefits local sex abuse programs

POSTED: October 14, 2009 11:30 p.m.

The Children’s Center for Hope and Healing will host its biggest fundraiser of the year Saturday night, when local residents are invited to groove to Motown and beach tunes and enjoy a spread of food from a few local restaurants.

Plus, the event celebrates the organization’s 25th anniversary.

Rebecca Davis, executive director of the Children’s Center for Hope and Healing, said the Atlanta band Synergy will play "very danceable things," all for a good cause.

Based in Gainesville, the center provides no-cost therapeutic services for women and children who are the survivors of sexual abuse, according to the nonprofit organization’s Web site.

A new program, Project Pathfinders, offers treatment for children and teens who have sexual behavior problems, many of whom have also been the victims of sexual abuse.

Davis said the event will also honor founders and former board members.

Along with the music and food, there will be several silent auction items up for grabs, including three sets of cultured pearls, an overnight stay at Lake Lanier Islands’ new resort Legacy Lodge, a weekend getaway to a cabin in the Blue Ridge mountains and trips to various wineries in Dahlonega.

"People are welcome to dress however they please; the suggested dress is cocktail attire or black-tie optional," Davis said. "It’s going to be a wonderful event."
