Fifteen members of the Col. William Candler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently attended the district two workshop at Johns Creek Baptist Church in Alpharetta. State Regent Barbara Chastain congratulated the chapter for winning second place in the national DAR literacy promotion. Lynda Holmes is the chapter chairwoman for literacy promotion. The Philadelphia Winn chapter of Lawrenceville hosted the workshop.

Milton Martin Honda in Gainesville recently held a "Stuff the Trunk" event in conjunction with 104.7-FM The Fish to collect school supplies for children at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County.

More than 100 people stopped by the dealership to make a donation to fill the trunk of a 2009 Honda Accord and as a result, more than 100 children at the Boys & Girls Clubs will receive school supplies.

David French, a 10th-grader at Flowery Branch High School, achieved the level of Mastering, the highest level, during the recent State 4-H Congress competition in Atlanta. David presented a speech on the use of musicians in the military, especially during the Civil War. He has been a member of 4-H for five years.
