It's Monty Python meets Robin Hood, but for the entire family.

That's how director Donna Chalmers describes this weekend's production of "The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood," put on by Fifth Row Center this weekend at Presentation Point Outdoor Amphitheater at Lake Lanier Islands.

The play tells the story of the classic legend, mixed with humorous and outlandish characters.

"It's just hysterical and has anachronistic elements thrown in for fun," Chalmers said. "One of the Merry Men makes a reference to Victoria's Secret, and the Merry Men pay attention only if they're given Ding Dongs to eat."

The cast, half of which is the same from last year's production of the play, has rehearsed for about six weeks. The group usually produces shows at The Springs Church on Spout Springs Road, but is taking a step into nature for this show by acting outdoors.

"We had a dinner theater on Valentine's Day at Legacy Lodge (at Lake Lanier), and we talked about doing something outdoors during the summer months," Chalmers said. "Lake Lanier has been very open to getting more of the community out there to do events."

Chalmers recommended bringing lawn chairs and bug spray for the outdoor performance.
