Asian flair dishes up more than plain-Jane beans

When my dad recommended I grow bush beans, I had no idea what a good idea that was.

For the past couple of weeks, every other evening I've been going out to my garden and picking at least a half-pound of fresh green beans. For a plant I thought was washed away by this spring's heavy rains or had been eaten by snails, it's survived - and thrived.

And sure, I'm dutifully blanching them as I pick them, packing them in the freezer for the winter - if we're not planning on eating them that night for dinner. But after a while, plain, boiled beans just starts to get a little, well, plain.

So, using inspiration from a great string bean appetizer sold at Doc Chey's Noodle House in Athens - it's a little sweet and a little salty - I found this creation that's easy to whip up with ingredients you probably already have. If you've got the grill going, throw the beans on to give them a bit of a char before tossing them in the stir fry, and that will give you an extra dimension of flavor.
