Hall County to get transit funds

POSTED: June 6, 2009 12:47 a.m.

Gov. Sonny Perdue announced Friday that he has submitted the required “1511 Certification” on transit projects around the state that will be funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Hall County is slated to receive stimulus funds for urban and rural programs, said Janice Crow, director of Hall Area Transit.

Crow said $600,000 will go toward its Red Rabbit bus system and more than $300,000 will go to the dial-a-ride program for rural areas.

“On the rural side, some of the computer stuff is to improve the scheduling aspect ... so the system can be constantly updating,” Crow said. “Security cameras are coming in on the urban side and that’s to see what’s going out there for vehicle incidents.”

Money will also go toward replacing buses.

“It’s nice to be able to get the equipment out there for customer service and for the operators,” Crow said.

Other counties in Northeast Georgia also are receiving stimulus funds, including $84,550 to Banks, $95,825 to Dawson, $176,100 to Forsyth, $22,800 to Habersham, $2,000 to Jackson, $2,000 to Lumpkin, $3,000 to Rabun, $73,500 to Towns and $22,800 to Union.
