The Lake Lanier Sailing Club in Flowery Branch, Thistle Fleet 79 and the Moms Club of Gainesville held an event recently to introduce the children, parents and staff of Challenged Child and Friends to sailing, as well as have them enjoy a day at the beach. The Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville will receive a grant for general operating support from the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, an initiative of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.

The first grants of a two-cycle process were awarded to 11 arts organizations in six counties across the region. The amounts range from $10,000 to $75,000 and the fund will provide a total of $500,000. The Quinlan Visual Arts Center will receive $40,000.

 

Alex Castle, 15, of Flowery Branch has earned the Eagle Scout Award and recently was awarded the honor in a ceremony at Celebration Church in Hoschton.

Alex is a member of Troop 228; his scoutmaster is David Allen.

He is the son of Benjamin and Eileen Castle of Flowery Branch.
