The Longstreet Clinic recently donated $2,000 to Good News Clinics as part of the nonprofit’s "95 in 95" campaign.

William Lamar Mangum received the United Daughters of the Confederacy World War II Cross of Military Service through the Gen. James Longstreet Chapter 46 of Gainesville. The presentation was made at the chapter’s annual Confederate Memorial Day Commemoration held at Redwine United Methodist Church. William is the great-grandson of Pvt. James H. Kiser of Company D, 27th Regiment Georgia Infantry.

Nolen Bryant, a sixth-grader at Gainesville Middle School, and Will Edwards, a kindergarten student at Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy, won first place in the Nature's Song poetry contest sponsored by the Garden Club of Georgia.

Bentley Smallwood, a first-grader at Enota, won second place in the Smokey Bear poster contest, also sponsored by the Garden Club of Georgia. The students' work was entered by Crabapple Garden Club.

Amanda Harmon, daughter of Spar and Rosalie Harmon of Toccoa, received the Gainesville Music Club High School Senior Scholarship. The homeschooled high school senior studies piano with Keith Jefcoat of Gainesville. She plans to attend Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., as a music major this fall.

The Mary Logan Brown Scholarship for college music majors was awarded to Carla Ganyard, daughter of Carl and Robin Ganyard of Gainesville. The junior piano performance major studies piano with Lois Finlay at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega.

Kathleen Stanley of Lawrenceville was named alternate for the Mary Logan Brown Scholarship. She studies piano with Priscilla Jefcoat at Brenau University in Gainesville.

This scholarship is in honor of the late Mary Logan Brown, a piano and organ teacher who was a charter member of the Gainesville Music Club and organist at First Baptist Church in Gainesville for 45 years.
