FBI working with Hall to set up shared office space

POSTED: May 14, 2009 10:13 p.m.

The FBI is looking to set up an office in Hall County.

The Hall County commission voted Thursday night to move ahead with an agreement still being worked out between the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

The FBI would be based in a 10,000-square-foot building off Monroe Drive, County Attorney Bill Blalock told the commission.

Col. Jeff Strickland of the sheriff’s office said the FBI would share the space with the Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad and Gainesville-Hall County Gang Task Force.

The FBI is proposing to pay the rental for five years, with county paying for utilities.

"The final documents are not yet prepared," Blalock said. "They’re in the process of coming back from the FBI."

Upon Blalock’s recommendation, the commission authorized Chairman Tom Oliver to sign the documents after approval by him and the sheriff’s office.

In other business, the commission voted to:

  • Set uniform punishments for those who repeatedly sell alcohol to minors. Fines of up to $250 could be issued for someone who does not check an ID before selling alcohol, regardless of apparent age.
  • Approve a request by the American Legion Paul E. Bolding Post 7 to hold July Fourth fireworks at Laurel Park in North Hall.
  • Approve an audit of all travel expenses of county commissioners since July 8 and commission pre-approval of all future travel expenses.
