OAKWOOD — Oakwood has unveiled a new city logo, featuring elements of its 2030 master plan.

The city first displayed the logo in its new newsletter, which provides updates on the master plan, as well as city employees and events.

And Patti Doss-Luna, assistant city manager, showed off the logo at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

She said the emblem depicts two key parts of city life: work and play.

“We’re real proud of it,” she said. “It was a real collaborative effort.”

The logo contains icons showing a tree-lined path, a city street and a bicycle, as well as a motto, “Building the Future Together.”

The move is an effort “to reflect our open government and the wonderful partnership that we have with our citizenry and businesses,” Doss said in the newsletter article.

The 2030 plan calls for a reshaping and redeveloping of the city’s old downtown area with the addition of new government buildings, green spaces and trails, homes and retail development.

In other business, the council voted to spend $30,000 to resurface two streets in the Oakwood Springs subdivision, as well as the entranceway, on Oakwood Road.

As part of an agreement between the city and Oakwood Springs, the subdivision’s homeowners association would repay the city at least $15,000 by July 15 and the balance by Dec. 15.

The council also voted to approve an agreement with Georgia Mountains YMCA to manage the city pool for the summer season, or from May 23 to Sept. 7.

According to the contract, the city would pay the YMCA $34,500.
