Store employee stabbed in robbery

Bank deposit taken; suspect at large

POSTED: December 13, 2007 5:02 a.m.

An employee of a Gainesville convenience store was recovering at an Atlanta hospital after being stabbed in the side during a Saturday morning robbery, police said.

Gainesville Police Lt. Brian Kelly said 53-year-old Linda Glidewell was walking to her car in the parking lot of the Kangaroo at 1785 Browns Bridge Road shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday when a male assailant approached her, stabbed her in the left side and took her purse. Inside the purse was the store's bank deposit bag, which contained an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

Glidewell went back into the store and had a clerk dial 911 as the robber fled on foot.

She was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening, Kelly said. Glidewell was in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon, he said.

Police have only a vague description of the suspect, whose race or ethnicity is not known. He is described as man with a mustache, wearing dark clothes, about 5 feet 8 inches, and 145 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gainesville police at 770-534-5254.
