Ethics board rejects complaint over Cagle’s old corporation

POSTED: March 28, 2009 12:19 a.m.

The State Ethics Commission has rejected a complaint filed against Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle.

The complaint, filed by Democratic activist Michael Parker of Flowery Branch, alleged that Cagle did not account for a now-defunct corporation and failed to filed to file financial disclosures in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Rick Thompson, executive secretary for the commission, said the complaint was rejected because it falls outside the time allowed by the Ethics in Government act. Under the act, complaints can go back up to five years for a four-year office.

Parker’s complaints center around Strateia Group Atlanta Inc., a corporation formed in 1996 with Cagle as CEO. The corporation was administratively dissolved in 2002 by the Secretary of State’s office. The articles of incorporation said the business was a management and consulting business.

Parker said he had not received the letter notifying him of the decision.

"Honesty has no expiration date," Parker said.

A spokeswoman for Cagle was not immediately available.
