Gainesville City Council cuts spending by more than $300,000

POSTED: March 17, 2009 11:32 p.m.
The City Council approved a budget adjustment Tuesday that shrinks city spending by more than $300,000.

The revised budget will include a 5 percent reduction in all city departments’ operating costs, and accounts for significant losses in sales tax revenue.

More than 98 percent of the loss of more than $330,000 in revenue can be attributed to a slump in sales tax revenue.

The changes affect spending for the current fiscal year, which ends on June 30.

Council also gave final approval to two requests for annexation of properties that were unincorporated county islands and passed a resolution asking the state General Assembly to amend the Gainesville-Hall Redevelopment Authority’s charter to cut the number of board members who serve on the board.
