Decision on closing schools not likely until morning

City, county officials in communication about impact of weather

POSTED: March 1, 2009 3:48 p.m.
Gainesville and Hall County school officials have been watching the weather today, but a decision about classes may not come until early Monday morning.

Gainesville Superintendent Merrianne Dyer said she has communicated with Hall Superintendent William Schofield this afternoon about the weather conditions.

While officials could make a determination about Monday classes this evening, any decision likely wouldn't come until early Monday morning, according to Gordon Higgins, spokesman for the Hall County school system.

Gainesville State College closed Sunday afternoon, but a decision about Monday classes will be made by 6 a.m. Monday, according to the school's Web site.

Check throughout tonight and Monday morning for the latest information on closings and delays.
