Derek Rich recently has been named to the Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society at the University of Georgia in Athens. To achieve this honor, students must have completed 30 semester hours while maintaining a 3.3 grade-point average or maintained a ranking in the top 15 percent of their class. Rich is a graduate of North Hall High School and the son of Benny and Kathleen Rich.

The following students recently graduated from Kaplan University's online program. Eula Green, Alondra Boutwell and Jennifer Langley, all of Gainesville; Gloria Dean and Lenika Peters, both of Buford; Hayley Smith of Flowery Branch; Melissa Green of Clermont; John M. Rice of Cleveland; and Thomas Rodney of Jefferson.

Rebecca Howard of Buford was recently named to the dean's list at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. To achieve this honor, students must have a grade-point average of 3.5.

Kyle Chewning of Gainesville has been named to the dean's list at Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn. To achieve this honor, students must have a grade-point average of 3.6 with no grades below a C. He is the son of Wayne and Kimberly Chewning of Gainesville.

The following students were named to the dean's list at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville for the fall semester.

Audrey Gailey of Clermont and Louise Elliott, Laura Palmer, Kristin Rainwater, Mary Schaap and Grant Wojdyla, all of Gainesville.

The following students were named to the president's list at Georgia College & State University for the fall semester.

Erin Ebrite, Andrew George and Matthew Ulm, all of Gainesville.

The following students were named to the dean's list at Berry College in Rome for the fall semester. To qualify, students must earn a 3.5 grade-point average in at least 12 hours of courses.

Brittany Howes of Braselton; and Amanda Perry, Emily Thomas and Kelsey Trusty, all of Gainesville.

Fair Street International Baccalaureate World School in Gainesville has been awarded a $20,000 landscape makeover as part of a radio station contest. The school will receive a pondless waterfall feature and surrounding landscaping for an "educational garden" that will represent a mini-ecosystem for wildlife.

Fair Street was one of 22 schools that applied for this award, and the judges said Fair Street was chosen because of the ongoing educational gardens, the curriculum and the number of students who will be involved from the prize.

The following students from Hall County have been awarded academic honors for the recently completed fall semester at Piedmont College in Demorest and Athens.

Students named as dean's scholars for the semester have earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

They include Staci Smith of Clermont; Shirley Adcock and Patience Burgamy, both of Flowery Branch; Cally Dunnett and Brandi Syfan, both of Gainesville; Lauren B. Evans, Christy D. Primo and Megan Thompson, all of Lula; and Laura Burgess of Murrayville.

Students named to the dean's list have earned a grade-point average of 3.5 to 3.99.

They include Whitney Armour and Stephanie Smith, both of Clermont; Phillip Albertson, Laura Gossett, Britt S. Hensley, Emily A. Little, Brandon Mahaffey and John Bart Mann, all of Flowery Branch; Kathryn J. Clements, Tracey Gardner, Lisa N. Jennings, Michael Fred Mansfield, Amanda Porter and Michael A. Rubio, all of Gainesville; Amanda Hulsey of Lula; and Josh McEachin of Oakwood.

Rebekah Gruver of Gainesville was named to the dean's list at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Fla., for the fall semester.

Christopher Nish has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Valdosta State University's Harley Landgale, Jr. College of Business in Valdosta. Nish is a graduate of North Hall High School and is the son of Susan and Andy Nish of Gainesville.

Shelby Teaford has been named to the dean's list at Young Harris College in Young Harris. Students must achieve a 3.5 grade-point average to receive this honor. Shelby is a graduate of North Hall High School. She is the daughter of Henry Teaford of Americus, Georgia and Tammy Teaford of Gainesville.

Ryan Walker of Cumming has been named to the dean's list at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I.
