A Gainesville-based mission organization has completed its first fundraising event with the awarding of a new car to a woman who said she really needed one.

"I was in shock," said Terri Adams. "I’ve never won anything in my life."

Adams purchased a raffle ticket for the car, a 2009 Toyota Corolla, which was the prize awarded by Net India Ministries.

Adams, who works for a fast-food restaurant, said she had a car, but it had a monthly payment and her new one does not.

"It’s the first time in 30 years I haven’t had a car payment," Adams said.

Net India was founded in 2000 by Ken and Tracy Grindle. The organization has helped more than 10,000 underprivileged children through its annual "Christmas in a Backpack" project. Backpacks are donated and filled with personal and school items, along with a copy of the New Testament in the language of the region where they are distributed.

The Grindles make five pilgrimages to India annually as a part of their Christian outreach.

There were nearly 1,000 tickets sold for the raffle. The car was sold to the mission organization at a reduced price by Milton Martin Toyota. Net India Ministries previously has relied on donations for support.

"We prayed it would go to a person that really needed the car, and the Lord answered that prayer," Ken Grindle said.

He expressed his gratitude to the people who both purchased and helped sell the tickets to help expand the ministry’s outreach.
