Thompson: Wordlock a nice idea with limited use

POSTED: February 1, 2009 1:00 a.m.

OK, I'm really torn about sharing this next gadget with you. It's called the Wordlock and it's basically a combination lock that uses letters instead of numbers.

Great idea, right? Well, after testing it, I'm not as enthused.

Yes, it's easier to remember a word instead of a number, but the problem with this product is you're very limited in the number of words you can choose for the lock. You see, the problem is that the lock has five tumblers and each tumbler only has a limited numbers of letters, not all 26. Every word I came up with wouldn't work with the lock.

Having said all of this, I know that a number of you will probably go out and buy one. I'm just giving you a heads-up that you might be disappointed with it. You can find them online and some local drugstores have started carrying them. The cost is around $10.
