County to pump up kids for big game

POSTED: January 29, 2009 11:53 p.m.

The day before Sunday’s big game, Hall County Parks and Leisure Services is holding a football-themed carnival to get kids excited about the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl Carnival for ages 3 to 10 is set for noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center. The cost is $3 per child.

Katie Nuckolls, program coordinator for Hall County Parks and Leisure Services, said fun activities will be offered, including sports-themed inflatables, games and crafts.

Nuckolls said that in years past, kids have enjoyed spending the afternoon running around and playing.

“What we do is we have several different inflatable sporting equipment,” she said. “We have a large inflatable football field goal and it has a large inflatable football that we set up for the kids can try to kick through. We have a couple large basketball hoops and a hockey/soccer net. The kids can run around and play with those.”

Those who are up for a calmer afternoon have other options.

“We have a sporting craft section where they can make little pennants to cheer on their Super Bowl team,” Nuckolls said.

There also will be beads, coloring and other crafts to keep little ones happy, Nuckolls said.

Nuckolls said she anticipates strong interest in this year’s event because of its low price.

“It’s a good weekend activity and it’s low cost,” Nuckolls said. “People are looking for family activities to do, and the fact that this is very inexpensive and you only have to pay for the kids to get in, but you still get to come in and spend time with them. I think that makes it very appealing to families.”

But Nuckolls said her favorite part of the event is getting to see the kids interact and have fun at the different activities.

“They can partake in whatever they choose to,” Nuckolls said.

The Super Bowl game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers begins at 6 p.m. Sunday.
