POSTED: January 24, 2009 12:46 a.m.

Hall County has recorded its first case of rabies for 2009.

Hall County Animal Control reports that a raccoon came in contact with four dogs Tuesday in the Ladd Drive area of North Hall.

The raccoon’s remains were sent Wednesday to the Georgia Public Health Lab in Decatur. Friday, the results came back positive for rabies.

Animal Control is posting warning signs in the area where the raccoon was found. Residents are urged to have their pets vaccinated if they have not already.

Anyone who observes an animal behaving abnormally, which could be a sign of rabies, should call Animal Control at 770-531-6830.
