It's about to get very cold, but little snow predicted

POSTED: January 13, 2009 11:13 a.m.

Don't dust off the snow shovel just yet.

There were no reports of snow in Hall County this morning, and the National Weather Service says there is only a slight chance for snow flurries tonight.

"(Tonight) we're looking for an occasional flurry; nothing that should be apparent to the average onlooker," said Laura Griffith, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Snow flurries could be a part of a moisture system that Griffith said the weather service expects to move through Hall County this afternoon. Snow might make an appearance in the northern area of the county, but not as far south as Gainesville, she said.

Chances for snow will increase early Thursday morning. The weather service says there is a 20 percent chance of snow showers after 1 a.m. Thursday.

If the snow comes Thursday, the ground will be cold enough for the snow to stick since temperatures have been dropping to the mid-20s this week.

But there may not be enough of it to cover the ground, Griffith said.

"We're looking at very little ... accumulation," she said.
